FMJD : Participation au Forum Mondial de la Jeunesse 2017 de l'UN ECOSOC

The World Federation of Democratic Youth attended the 2017 Global Youth Forum of UN ECOSOC under the title “The role of youth in poverty and promoting prosperity in changing world”, held on 30-31 January 2017, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Young Socialists of USA (member organization of WFDY) represented the federation at the forum. The aim of the Forum was to provide a platform for youth to engage in a dialogue with Member States and share ideas on innovation, collective action and solutions to global problems.

The participation of WFDY at the forum was based on the consultative status of it with UN (ECOSOC). The aim of the federation was to provide its point of view on the global problems that are resulted due to the imperialist aggressiveness, an aggressiveness that is intensified in order to impose the control of the imperialists to the strategic resources, commercial routes, cheap labour and new markets, reaffirming on the same time that the wellbeing of the peoples is incompatible with imperialism, the system where the monopolies rule, the system that is magnifying dramatically wars, poverty, peoples' exploitation and refugees.

For WFDY the path is the united fight of the progressive youth against imperialism, against fascism in the direction of lasting peace. Under this perspective WFDY participated a special session on the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students, organized by its colleagues from the Russian Delegation within the forum. During this special session the representative of WFDY took the floor and spoke about the anti-imperialist character of the festival inviting all those who share that perspective to attend the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students. Additionally it was mentioned that WFDY is responsible for leading and moving the preparatory process of the festival.

WFDY once more is calling for international mobilization of the progressive youth. The youth have to work for the creation of the National Preparatory Committees in their countries in order to have a decisive role for a successful XIX World Festival of Youth and Students.
